The best laid plans kind of went wrong this time. We just got back from Turnagain and I guess it's a good news/bad news story. Bad news for our hunter who bought our donated wolf hunt at the GOABC convention last year. Good news for us that there appeared to be a shortage of wolves this year.
There's more good news in that in spite of the bitter cold we had during the hunt, the winter overall seems pretty mild. There were moose still wintering in areas where they normally get forced out of before now, the caribou seemed to be thriving and hadn'tbeen forced back up to the alpine areas by deep snows in the timber. And while we were looking high and low for wolves we noticed they probably weren't up high because the sheep were in areas they wouldn't be if there were predators around.
We haven't been home much since when we left for The Safari Club International convention in mid January but we did have a great time on the show circuit. However we should get some office work done in April, after we do one more wolf hunt. We just gotta be sure you know, there's probably at least one big hungry pack waiting up there.
We do have a few openings left for 2006 including sheep so if you need a hunt contact us quick. They do go fast at this time of the year.
We will be attending the GOABC convention March 24-25 and have donated a Stone Sheep hunt for 2007. However, if the buyer prefers we can fit him into a slot this year due to the opening we have. Get there and bid or register to telephone bid. |The best laid plans kind of went wrong this time. We just got back from Turnagain and I guess it's a good news/bad news story. Well it snowed here today so time to get the heck out of this country. Imagine, Jan. 13 in Prince George and 6 inches of snow on the ground and almost freezing too! Incredible. Most often we would have at least 2 feet of snow and would consider 0 Fahrenheit mild.
Christmas was great for us, especially Joan and I who spent it with our sons on Vancouver Island and then made frequent trips to Vancouver itself for the World Jr. Hockey Championship. For those of you football fans who didn't follow the games, CANADA won gold. And in fine fashion too, beating Russia in the final.
I, unfortunately missed that one and even more unfortunately, not because I was still drunk from New Year's. I was in Toronto by then having hernia surgery. This of course has been unfortunate for Shane as well because he got left at home doing all the heavy work getting our new booth ready. And what a booth it is. He had our good friend Tom Blackburn of Roundwood Log Homes here in PG built it and since they're both a pair of perfectionists with great imaginations too, it's a thing of beauty.
Safari Club International in Reno is our first stop, Booth 3709 for those who are looking for us. Shane then heads off to Dallas for the Dallas Safari Club while I -ahem - continue my recovery elsewhere. Look for Shane at booth 465 in Dallas. Look for me , well I'd better not say where. I don't want Shane to shoot me just yet!
We get back together again in Reno for the FNAWS convention Feb.1-4 in booth 131. Hopefully after that Shane will take some time off, the first in over a year while I recover even further.
We still have some excellent openings, so catch us quick before we sell them all out in Reno and quadruple our money at the blackjack tables.
Best wishes to all for a great year in 2006. |

It was a great season. Our biggest challenge was the weather but we made it through without our feet getting webbed so I guess it could have been worse. We had our best season of sheep hunting and got 8 rams for 9 hunters.
The caribou hunting was superb and we got some great bulls. Our success was 100%. We were also close to that on moose, getting 16 bulls for 18 hunters. We didn't top the 60 inch mark but had several very close to it.
A stretch of rain, fog and snow in mid to late September messed up our goat hunters but we ended up with 4 for 7 hunters. There's no doubt that we would have got 3 more billies if the weather had cooperated. All our hunters were in excellent shape and for the most part saw goats early on but soon couldn't even see the mountains. It was gratifying that all 3 of our hunters who didn't get goats booked to come back again. We also managed to get a couple of 7 foot plus grizzlies.
We're really excited about next season given what we saw this year, only wish it didn't seem so far away. However it will come around very quickly so if you're looking to hunt next year there's no better time than now to contact us. We still have some of our best hunts available but that changes quickly.
We'll have a much more complete update here next week so check back and keep looking at our 2005 photo gallery. We're adding to it almost daily. |

Well, the trophies and meat from this season are all shipped, Shane has the horses all trimmed, wormed and doctored and so far, knock on wood, we haven't got dumped on with snow. Maybe now we can finally start preparing for next year.
It used to be a simple thing to ship trophies. I'd wrap them with cardboard, put the capes in a feedback, duct tape it to the antlers and drop them at the local trucking company. The ones to Europe we'd have to crate and send sea freight. That's all changed now. Since the mad cow cases in Canada all wildlife imports to the US are inspected so the trucking companies won't take them from here and all of the companies on either side of the border require crates. Now we crate them and haul them across the border ourselves so we know there's no holdup at Customs. The stuff to Europe can no longer go seafreight unless you have a complete container so we send it air freight. And not only do the trophies have to be certified by a taxidermist and inspected by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, now even the wood in the crates has to be certified. Which means you have to be dedicated to be a hunter these days and not easily deterred by red tape or bureaucracy.
And if you're a hunter we've got good news! We're now accepting deposits for next years hunts. We've actually been doing that for awhile quietly but now it's out in the open - not a secret any longer. We have 3 openings left on our Stone Sheep hunts in 2006 and double that in '07, we've got some great openings still on our mixed bag hunts and our final hunt of the season, for moose only, is wide open meaning we have room for 5 hunters. This si the same hunt on which we had 100% kill for the 3rd year in a row. In fact only once did we have 1 hunter miss getting a moose. If you're not going to attend the Safari Club International convention in Reno Jan.18-22 and want to book a hunt better do it now. We don't sell out completely there but it's close and we'll certainly have fewer dates open than we do now.
Our hunt prices and dates are posted on the "Hunting" page so if you're a DOer get in touch with us real soon. And if you're a DREAMer, by all means keep visiting our site. |
